Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. GOP elects Tulsan new state party chairman

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma Republican Party has elected Matt Pinnell (pih-NELL') of Tulsa as its new chairman.

Pinnell was the only candidate for the post and was elected during a meeting Saturday in Oklahoma City. He succeeds Gary Jones who is resigning to run for state Auditor and Inspector.

Norman, OK – Report says Oklahoma girl died 'violent' death

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) An autopsy says a 7-year-old girl who was found dead with her stepfather in a wooded area of Norman died a "violent death."

The report released Friday says Aja Johnson may have died of a neck injury, but her body was badly decomposed. The report says there were four or five cuts to the left front of her neck that went to the spine, but the remainder of the neck was nearly a skeleton with no remaining tissue.

Oklahoma City, OK – Fire hits Okla. airplane parts manufacturing plant

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A fire has occurred at an Oklahoma City plant where airplane parts are manufactured.

Initial reports indicate the fire at Pro-Fab Manufacturing is chemical in nature and that a bin of titanium shavings is burning. Firefighters donned protective gear as they battled the blaze on the city's west side.

Employees working inside the building were evacuated. There are no immediate reports of injuries.

River Clean-up

Oklahoma City, OK – Cleanup of oil leak in Okla. river near completion

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A U.S. Environmental Protection Agency spokesman says the cleanup of oil that leaked into a river near Lake Arcadia is nearing completion.

Joe Hubbard with the EPA says the cleanup of the Deep Fork River in northeast Oklahoma City could be finished Friday. Hubbard says between 30 and 45 barrels of crude oil are being recovered from the site.

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. House interim studies announced

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma House Speaker Chris Benge has approved 68 interim studies to be conducted prior to the start of the 2011 Legislature in February.

The studies announced Thursday include child welfare services, agency consolidation, math education in Oklahoma schools, tax credits and incentives and a review of recent government modernization efforts.

Tulsa, OK – Apple Inc.'s newest iPhone is seling briskly around the world today, including here in Tulsa.

Thousands have been lining up outside stores to snag one -- amid concerns of supply shortages.

Some stores -- including ones in Tokyo, Miami and San Francisco -- sold out within hours as the iPhone 4 went on sale in the U.S., France, Germany, the U.K. and Japan.

Remembering: Hannah Atkins

Oklahoma City, OK – Atkins' body lies in state at Capitol

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The body of Hannah Atkins, the first black woman elected to the Oklahoma House, has been brought to the state Capitol to lie in state.

Atkins died June 17 at the age of 86. Her closed casket was placed in the Capitol's second-floor rotunda Thursday.
