Jay, OK – Former teacher in Grove charged with embezzlement

JAY, Okla. (AP) A former high school English teacher and cheerleading adviser in the Grove school district has been charged with embezzling money from the district's cheerleading fund.

Court documents show 53-year-old Michell Diane Martin is accused of taking $8,270 from the fund.

Her attorney declined comment on the charge.

Martin worked for the Grove district in 2001 and again from 2005 until she resigned Oct. 26.

Stillwater, OK – Oklahoma mayor faces preliminary hearing on charge

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Stillwater Mayor Nathan Bates on accusations that he used his city computer to try to win a public grant for a company he owns.

The hearing for the 28-year-old Bates will begin Tuesday before Payne County Special Judge Phillip Corley.

Chief Jordan made the announcement today. He says it is an effort to rebuild trust in the department. This following the corruption scandal which has led to two-dozen court cases being tossed out.

Oklahoma City, OK – Certification of Okla Islamic law refendum blocked

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A federal judge has granted a request to keep the state of Oklahoma from certifying election results for a constitutional amendment that would bar state courts from considering international or Islamic law when deciding cases.

Tulsa, OK – 125-new jobs will be coming to Tulsa over the next two-to-three years. That announcement was made this morning at the Borets-Weatherford facility.

The international company is relocating to Tulsa from Houston and has been accepted into the Oklahoma Quality Jobs Program. The company manufactures electric submersible pumps for the oil and gas industry.

The company is located in the old Ramsey-Winch facility at Pine and North Garnett.

Tulsa, OK – Man shot to death in north Tulsa; no arrests made

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Police say a 41-year-old man has been shot to death at a north Tulsa apartment complex.

Police say that shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday, Kenneth Maywald knocked on the door of a resident of the complex, saying he'd been shot. When authorities arrived, they found Maywald had been shot in the arm and lower abdomen. He died later at a Tulsa hospital.

Tulsa, OK – TULSA, Okla. (AP) Tulsa Public Schools officials say an energy efficiency initiative has saved the district more than $1.4 million this year a 17 percent saving over anticipated costs for electricity, gas, sewer and water services. Bob LaBass, the district's executive director of bond projects and energy management, says the saved funds go back into the general fund. He says he expects the district to save even more in 2011.

Tulsa, OK – TULSA, Okla. (AP) Jury selection in the trial of an 18-year-old Tulsa man charged with killing a Bishop Kelley High School senior is set to start today. Theo Fleming is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 18-year-old Kaitlyn Finnegan, who was shot April 4, 2009, at a southeast Tulsa house.

Oklahoma City, OK – Cities question DHS child care licensing process

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) An investigation by The Oklahoman is revealing that the state Department of Human Services has issued licenses to more than 230 child care operators without requiring them to obtain city permits or letting the cities know that the licenses have been granted.
