Stillwater, OK – STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) It was a wild Oklahoma Class 6A football championship game, with almost 100 points scored last night between Union and Jenks. Union pulled it out 50-47 after wide receiver Stephon Weaver threw a 28-year touchdown to Christian Hoods with 39 seconds left. Jenks had beaten union earlier in the year, so both teams finished 13-1.
Oklahoma City, OK – Contract delayed while Senate probe launched
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The signing of a $10 million contract to operate a new juvenile justice center has been delayed after reports of a relationship between a state senator and a lobbyist for the company that won the contract.
Tulsa, OK – Tulsa District Attorney Tim Harris is the victim of a death threat. The threat appears to be connected to the prosecution in the murder for hire death of Tulsa businessman and former TU football star Neal Sweeney.
Apparently one of the suspects was attempting to get local gang members to carry out the hit, apparently to hinder prosecution in the Sweeney case.
Tulsa Police officers are investigating. Harris and his family are now under 24-hour protection.
Oklahoma City, OK – Lawmakers eye changes to state pension systems
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) With another projected budget shortfall and billions in unfunded pension liabilities, Oklahoma lawmakers are considering changes to the state's pension systems.
The heads of five state pension systems testified Thursday that the combined unfunded liability is about $16 billion. By far the largest component is the Teachers Retirement System, which has an unfunded liability of $10.4 billion.
