Tulsa Public Schools Emergency Manager Bob Roberts says Under today's drill students at Webster, Clinton and Remington were relocated to the fairgrounds because of a mock train derailment.
Tulsa, OK – TULSA, Okla. (AP) A Tulsa nonprofit organization is using more than $12 million in federal grant money to develop a local electronic health information exchange model. Tulsa doctor David Kendrick, the CEO of the Greater Tulsa Health Access Network, says the goal is to have the system ready for use by spring or early summer. Tulsa is one of 15 communities chosen to receive the federal grant.
Edmond, OK – Former Gov. Brad Henry considers UCO presidency
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Former Gov. Brad Henry says he's considering applying to become president of the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
UCO President Roger Webb announced last week he will retire this summer. Henry told The Oklahoman he will "seriously consider" applying for the opening and will discuss it with his wife.
Tulsa, OK – Union, Jenks, Liberty Mounds and Broken Arrow will begin processing applications for special needs scholarships but the fight is far from over. The School Districts will fight the law in court. Union School Superintendent Doctor Kathy Burden calls the scholarships a first step toward a voucher system.
The school districts plan on suing Attorney General Scott Pruitt and will use his own words from the federal lawsuit on health care reform an example.
Tulsa, Ok – After two winter storm events , the City of Tulsa still has 78 percent of the salt with which it began the snow and ice season in November.
The City had 9,600 tons of salt on hand in November and, with two winter storms so far, has used 2,030 tons of salt. Some 7,570 tons remain in the City's two street maintenance yards for use, if needed in coming weeks.
Tulsa, OK – Mayor Dewey Bartlett with Oklahoma Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Rita Aragon and Councilor G.T. Bynum announced today that the City of Tulsa Municipal Courts will start a Veteran's Treatment Court beginning March 25, 2011. The Municipal Veteran's Treatment Court is the first of its kind in the country and will have a specialized docket targeting veterans charged with misdemeanor offenses.
Tulsa, OK – 42-Rookies begin their training to join the Tulsa Police Department. But, despite the recruits, Police Chief Chuck Jordan says the new class will just cover the number of officers who retired.
The Chief says it could be awhile before Tulsa gets above 800-police officers.
Oklahoma City, OK – Oklahoma judge turns herself in on charges
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) An Oklahoma County judge facing more than 30 fraud and perjury counts in a foster-care claims case has turned herself in at the county jail.
Sheriff's spokesman Mark Myers says District Judge Tammy Bass-LeSure and her husband, Carlos LeSure, surrendered just before 10 a.m. Monday. Both were booked into the jail and released on their own recognizance, awaiting their initial court appearance.
ENID, Okla. (AP) The archbishop of the Oklahoma City archdiocese says one of Enid's two Catholic churches will close on June 1.
Archbishop Eusebius Beltran told parishioners at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church on Sunday that the church will merge with St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He says the two-parish system had been in place in Enid for almost 40 years.
