Oklahoma City, OK – Ice, snow chill southern Plains amid power outages
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A winter storm has dumped snow, sleet and freezing rain on Oklahoma and the southern Plains, leading to thousands of power outages, canceled flights at the state's largest airports and the closure of major highways.
In a response to the FOP vote tonight, Mayor Dewey Bartlett said:
"We gave the union an option with salary concessions and no layoffs and unfortunately they chose to layoff several of their fellow police officers. It has been our intent all along to address public safety first and foremost and live within our means as a city.
Tulsa, OK – The National Weather Service has made major changes for the Tulsa area weather forecast. Rather than heavy snow, forecasters are now expecting heavy ice in the Tulsa Metro. A band of ice should stretch from central Creek County, up Interstate-44, through the Tulsa Metro and near Claremore and then east into Northwest Arkansas.
On the Sperry-Pletz Ice Damage index Tulsa is forecasted to be a four. Five is the worst and expected in Creek County and from Claremore east.
