Abortion Law Unlawful

Oklahoma City, OK – Judge rules Oklahoma abortion law unconstitutional

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) An Oklahoma statute barring the termination of a pregnancy based on the gender of the fetus was deemed unconstitutional Friday.

District Judge Daniel Owens says the law violates the state's rule that legislation address a single subject.

The measure passed the Oklahoma Legislature and was signed into law by Gov. Brad Henry last year.

Company to Pay for Missing Drugs

Tulsa, OK – U.S. Attorney Thomas Scott Woodward announced today that Cardinal Health Pharmacy Services, LLC, a company engaged in providing hospital pharmacy management services, has agreed to pay a civil penalty in the amount of $1 million for failing to account for large amounts of missing prescription drugs.

Stillwater, OK – OSU study shows economic link between Okla., Texas

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) An Oklahoma State University study indicates the economic performance of Oklahoma and Texas are linked through trade and that growth in one state results in growth in the other.

Kyle Dean and Russell Evans of OSU's Center for Applied Economic Research led the study. They developed a model to estimate the level of economic interdependency existing along the Interstate 35 corridor linking Oklahoma City to Dallas and Fort Worth.

DOC Cuts Impact Training

Oklahoma City, OK – Prison job training programs closed due to cuts

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Prison-based programs that train inmates for jobs in various areas are being closed because of statewide budget cuts.

The state Department of Career and Technology Education is shutting down four of the programs that provide training in areas such as construction, transportation and manufacturing.

A Hole in the Road

Tulsa, OK – A giant hole opened on the bridge deck at I-44 and 163rd East Avenue. Kenna Mitchell with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation tells KWGS News crews are working to patch the bridge deck.

The hole was so large that cars hitting the section had tires blown out.

Nichols Going Hungry?

Denver, CO – Okla. bombing conspirator on a hunger strike

DENVER (AP) Oklahoma City bombing conspirator Terry Nichols says he's going on a hunger strike because he claims prison officials don't provide him a fiber-rich diet.

Nichols said in a handwritten note filed in Denver federal court Thursday that he began his strike Monday because his body is being "defiled" by the food he gets at the federal Supermax prison in Florence, Colo.

Budget Hole

Oklahoma City, OK – Lawmakers pass budget bills for FY2010 fix

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) State lawmakers are using money from federal stimulus funds and a state savings account to plug a hole in this year's budget, prevent trooper furloughs and ease cuts for education, health care and prisons.

Although no formal agreement has been announced, special budget committees in the House and Senate on Thursday approved several funding bills to patch the budget for the fiscal year that ends June 30.

School Bus Wreck

Muskogee, OK – MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) Muskogee school officials say three elementary school students were hospitalized after a car hit the school bus they were riding. District Transportation Director Anne Henry says none of the injuries are serious. Police say the driver of the car ran a stop light and hit the bus yesterday morning.
