Fort Gibson, OK – Officials find zebra mussels in Fort Gibson Lake

FORT GIBSON, Okla. (AP) The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says zebra mussels have been found in another Oklahoma lake.

Corps spokesman Ross Adkins says the mussels were recently found in Fort Gibson Lake. The species was previously found in Skiatook, Texoma, Kaw, Keystone, Eufaula, Oologah and Grand lakes.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Gov. Brad Henry has signed a bill that will require state narcotics officers to compile a report on the number of drug overdoses each year.

The bill was one of three signed into law by Henry on Thursday.

Washington, D.C. – Okla. bishop to celebrate Latin Mass after uproar

WASHINGTON (AP) A Roman Catholic bishop from Oklahoma will celebrate a special Latin Mass in Washington on Saturday after a Vatican cardinal pulled out following criticism by advocates for abuse victims.

The Paulus Institute, which is organizing the Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception says Bishop Edward Slattery of Tulsa, Okla., has agreed to participate.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Nearly 4,000 power outages are reported most in Enid after strong storms with high winds moved into Oklahoma.

No injuries were reported early Friday as a result of the storm.

Tulsa, Ok – Guns stolen from home of Tulsa police officer

TULSA, Okla. (AP) The home of Tulsa police Sgt. Mike Huff has been burglarized with guns, badges and a police uniform among the items stolen.

Huff was speaking at a conference on cold-case investigations in Florida when the burglary occurred. Authorities say the burglars kicked in the back door to get into the home Wednesday.

Tornado Watch

Oklahoma City, OK – Tornado watch issued for western Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for nine counties in western Oklahoma.

The watch, in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday, covers Beaver, Beckham, Ellis, Greer, Harmon, Harper, Jackson, Roger Mills and Texas counties. Strong storms were reported in the Oklahoma Panhandle Thursday afternoon.

Texting Ban Urged

Oklahoma City, OK – Parents of teen killed in crash urge texting ban

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The parents of a 17-year-old Texas girl killed in a car accident while texting on her mobile phone are pushing for a texting ban in Oklahoma.

Johnny Mac and Jeanne Brown of Wellman, Texas, visited the state Capitol on Thursday to support a bill pending in the Senate to prohibit texting while driving. Their daughter Alex died in a one-car crash five miles from their home in November 2009.
