More than 20,000 Vote Absentee in Oklahoma Election

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — State Election Board officials say more than 20,000 Oklahomans have already cast their ballots for the November 6th general election.

State Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax  said Friday that county election boards have received 20,016 absentee ballots mailed by Oklahoma voters. The county election boards have sent 53,132 absentee ballots to Oklahoma voters who requested them.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot for the general election is October 31st.

Oklahoma Parole Ballot Issue Drawing Opposition

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Opposition is mounting against a proposed amendment to Oklahoma's Constitution that would grant more authority to the state Pardon and Parole Board.

The measure is State Question 762 and will be decided by voters in the November 6th general election. It would remove the governor from the parole process for nonviolent offenders. Oklahoma is the only state in the nation that requires the governor sign off on every inmate parole recommendation, even those for nonviolent offenders.

US House Speaker Taps Mullin for Weekly Address

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — U.S. House Speaker John Boehner has selected a congressional candidate from Oklahoma to deliver the Weekly Republican Radio Address.

Boehner said in a statement Thursday that he's selected Republican Markwayne Mullin to deliver Saturday's address in response to the president's weekly address. Boehner said that — as a small business owner — Mullin understands the need to shut down the "jobs-destroying red tape factory in Washington, D.C."
