Tulsa, OK – Hearing for accused killer postponed

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A preliminary hearing for a man charged in the contract killing of a Tulsa businessman has been postponed.

Terrico Dion Bethel, 23, is charged with the first-degree murder of Neal Sweeney last September.

A district court official did not immediately know Friday morning when the rescheduled hearing would be.

Oklahoma City, OK – G opinion sought on caucus issues


OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A state lawmaker has asked Attorney General Drew Edmondson for a legal opinion on the use of state-owned facilities by political caucuses at the state Capitol.

State Rep. Mike Reynolds of Oklahoma City said Friday he wants to know if it's constitutional to use state-owned computers and envelopes to support caucus issues.

No Sales Tax

Oklahoma City, OK – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's third annual sales tax holiday is here.

The tax-free weekend starts today, giving families a chance to save money on back-to-school clothing while encouraging shoppers to support Oklahoma businesses.

This year's sales tax holiday ends at midnight on Sunday, Aug. 9. Clothing and shoes priced under $100 are exempt from all sales taxes during that period.

Tulsa, OK – The City and the County has a fresh fuss. This time it is over who will provide security for the Tulsa State Fair. The fairgrounds in now inside the Tulsa City Limits, but it remains Tulsa County property.

Each side says the other is responsible for providing security for the Tulsa State Fair. Tulsa Police offered to provide law enforcement at the fair for a fee and the Fair Board has said the fee was too high.

Tulsa, OK – Extreme heat returns to Oklahoma


OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Much of Oklahoma got a reprieve as a storm system moved across the area on Thursday, but weather forecasters expected the intense heat to return.

Before thunderstorms rolled across northern, central and southern sections of the state late Wednesday into Thursday, daytime highs reached or passed 100 degrees in many areas, including a 106-degree reading in Lawton on Wednesday.

Wewoka, OK – Mental exam for man charged in deputies' deaths

WEWOKA, Okla. (AP) A psychiatric evaluation is being ordered for the man charged with first-degree murder of two Seminole County sheriff's deputies.

A Seminole County judge on Wednesday approved the request by defense attorneys to send 26-year-old Ezekiel Holbert to the Oklahoma Forensic Center in Vinita. The evaluation is to determine if he's competent to assist in his defense.

Big Fight at Big Splash

Tulsa, OK –
A ruckus at Tulsa's Big Splash Water Park leaves one teenage girl injured. Large scale fights broke out last evening at the park as "Christian Youth Night" was held at the park. Police estimate the crowd at 3,500.

The park was closed early, but many parents were not there to pick-up their kids. That led to more fights in the parking lot and across the street at 21st and South Yale in the Wal-Mart Supermarket parking lot.
