River Meetings

The Arkansas River flows into downtown Tulsa.

Tulsa, OK – Tulsa County held a series of public meetings to discuss a portion of the Arkansas River Master Plan. The plan spans the Arkansas River from the Keystone Dam to Jenks and includes low water dam construction and rehabilitation, ecosystem restoration, shoreline stabilization and recreational uses.

The purpose of the meetings? To inform the public of the current status of the projects and recommendations for future studies, and request input that would be incorporated in to the Environmental Summary Report.

Muslim Girl Files Lawsuit

Tulsa, OK – Teen alleges discrimination by retail giant

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A federal lawsuit filed against clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch alleges the manager at a Tulsa store refused to hire a 17-year-old Muslim girl because she wore a head scarf.

Attorneys for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed the lawsuit Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Tulsa.

American to Cut Flights

Oklahoma City, OK – AA to end flights to St. Louis from OKC, Tulsa

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) American Airlines is eliminating its flights between Oklahoma City and St. Louis by next summer.

The airline had said earlier it would end its regional American Eagle service between Tulsa and St. Louis by the end of the year.

The head of American's parent company AMR said in a letter to employees that the company is refocusing and eliminating unprofitable flights.

Oklahoma City, OK – Oklahoma's second swine flu death reported


OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Health officials say a second Oklahoman has died after contracting swine flu.

In addition to the illness, the Carter County man had underlying medical conditions as did an earlier Oklahoma swine flu patient who died.

The state Department of Health said Thursday that the virus appears widespread in the state.

In the past week, 20 people have been hospitalized with flu-like symptoms.

UPDATE: Oneok VS. Tweeter

Tulsa, OK – Oneok drops lawsuit against Twitter

TULSA, Okla. (AP) One day after natural gas distributor Oneok Inc. sued social networking site Twitter for trademark infringement, the company is dropping the lawsuit.

Oneok spokeswoman Megan Washbourne said Wednesday the issue has been resolved.

Oneok filed the lawsuit Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Tulsa, saying San Francisco-based Twitter wrongly allowed an anonymous customer the user name "ONEOK." Washbourne says that account since has been transferred to Oneok.

Infant Mortality

Oklahoma City, OK – Health officials want lower infant deaths

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma health officials are looking for new ways to improve the infant mortality rates in the state, particularly among African-Americans.

The Oklahoma State Health Department introduced a new statewide initiative and a Web site aimed at lowering the number of infant deaths. "Preparing for a Lifetime: It's Everyone's Responsibility" was featured at the Southwest Region Healthy Start Conference, which concluded Wednesday in Oklahoma City.
