Oklahoma City, OK – Oklahoma schools chief won't run

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Sandy Garrett says she will not seek another term as state superintendent of public instruction.

Garrett is serving her five consecutive term in the post.

She said she wanted to make her announcement early enough for other qualified candidates to have time to consider running for the position in the 2010 elections.

Tulsa, Ok – Tulsans will not vote on making municipal elections non-partisan. Judge Jefferson Sellars ruled an initiative petition was invalid. City Councilor John Eagleton brought the challenge. He was pleased with the ruling.

State law requires valid signatures equal to 25-percent of the voters in the last election . But the judge ruled the City Clerk's office used the wrong election to determine the number of required signatures.

Tulsa, OK – Tulsa County is getting a little greener. The County Commission has signed Johnson Controls to an energy saving performance contract.

The County's Terry Simonson says the company will review and make improvements to up to 40- county buildings.

The work would cover the county courthouse, the jail, fairgrounds and even the county owned parks and recreation centers.

Oklahoma City, OK – legislative task force to review the 2005 Achieving Classroom Excellence (ACE) Act will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, August 25 at the State Capitol.

Sen. John Ford, Senate Education Chair, was author of the legislation creating the task force to conduct a comprehensive review of ACE and determine whether the program should be modified to better meet its objectives. The task force will be co-chaired by Representative Ann Coody, R-Lawton.

Tulsa, OK – (Tulsa, OK) After fourteen years as Director and forty years at the Tulsa Health Department, Director Gary Cox has announced his resignation effective September 30, 2009. Mr. Cox has accepted a position as the Director of the Oklahoma City-County Health Department. Fond Du Lac, Wis. – Wis. governor urges more talks at Mercury Marine

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle says he's disappointed that union workers at Mercury Marine have rejected a package of wage and benefit concessions.

The boat engine maker says that as a result of Sunday's vote, it will move many of its Fond du Lac manufacturing operations to its facility in Oklahoma over the next two to three years.
