Tulsa, OK – 4 young children taken from filthy home


TULSA, Okla. (AP) Authorities have removed four children ages 10 and younger from a home described in an police report as a "danger to children."

Tulsa County jail records indicate 30-year-old Melodie Brooke Larson was arrested about 10 p.m. Friday after Tulsa police served a search warrant at the east Tulsa home.

City Budget Woes Worsen

Tulsa, OK – Tulsa needs to cut $3 million more from budget

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Tulsa governmental leaders say the state's second-largest city will have to cut $3 million from its budget because of declining sales tax revenues.

Mayor Kathy Taylor says her management team will meet next week to consider possible actions. During the city budget planning process, a $2.9 million group of cuts was prepared in case the city's revenues continued falling.

Internal Investigation at Catoosa

Catoosa, OK – Assistant police chief suspended


CATOOSA, Okla. (AP) Catoosa authorities say the assistant police chief has been suspended as part of a drug probe.

According to a statement Friday by Police Chief Raymond Rodgers, assistant Police Chief Paul Whitmire has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of an investigation by the Rogers County Drug Task Force.

Whitmire declined a request for comment.

Layoffs at ORU

Tulsa, OK – ORU laying off 124

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Oral Roberts University will lay off 124 employees as it contracts out facilities management and mail and copy services.

According to a statement from the school, Sodexo will become the university's facilities management provider and Pitney Bowes will provide mail and copy service beginning Nov. 1. The change is expected to save the university about $1.2 million.

Uptick in House Fires

Red Cross Headquarters in Tulsa at 11th and Highway 169.

Tulsa, OK – Red Cross volunteers are at the scene of a fire at 1626 S. Columbia Place. One adult is affected, and the volunteers will be offering to assist with necessities that may have been destroyed, such as food and clothing.

Additionally, the Red Cross would like to warn families to be on guard this weekend about home fires. Because this is our first cold snap, families probably will be turning on their heaters and lighting fireplaces for the first time. This traditionally causes a spike in fires, our country's No. 1 disaster.
