Oklahoma City, OK – Gov. Brad Henry today approved legislation to boost a state program that helps attract the best and brightest professors and researchers to Oklahoma colleges and universities.

By restructuring an ongoing bond issue for the endowed chairs program, House Bill 3031 by House Speaker Chris Benge and Senate President Pro Tempore Glenn Coffee will generate approximately $100 million in new funds for the higher education initiative.

Dallas, TX – Feds tell American Airlines, unions keep talking

DALLAS (AP) Federal officials have dealt labor unions at American Airlines a setback by refusing to start a 30-day countdown toward possible strikes.

The National Mediation Board told the company and two unions they should continue to bargain over new contracts while the board considers the unions' requests to declare a stalemate in negotiations.

Muskogee, OK – Police arrest 2 more people in fatal mall shooting

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) Muskogee police have arrested two people on complaints of harboring a fugitive in connection with the shootings at a mall that left a teenager dead and five others inured.

Police said Tuesday Tenesha Nunley and Augusta Parker were in control of the residence where 16-year-old Michael Mayberry, 17-year-old Anton Nelson and Dondray Fowler were arrested on Monday.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A Republican candidate for Oklahoma governor who endorsed the idea of creating a state citizen militia is defending the plan but retreating from his earlier position that the force would be used to oppose the federal government.

Political leaders from both parties on Tuesday condemned the idea, which also has the support of some tea party leaders.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Gov. Brad Henry has vetoed two bills, including one calling for additional penalties for those who commit workers' compensation fraud.

Henry signed 16 other bills into law late Tuesday.

Baxter Springs, Kansas – Small plane makes emergency landing in SE Kansas

BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. (AP) Authorities say an Oklahoma pilot was unhurt after making an emergency landing of his small plane in a southeast Kansas field.

The Kansas Highway Patrol identifies the pilot in Tuesday morning's incident as 47-year-old Toby Angel, of Stillwater.

Trooper Sage Hill says Angel was at about 4,000 feet and beginning his approach to Missouri's Joplin Regional airport when the plane's engine "basically exploded."

Tulsa, OK – The City is moving forward with the sale of old City Hall to Brickhuggers. Brickhuggers is the same firm that renovated the old Mayo Hotel. The plans include turning the building into a 200-room hotel.

The company has offered the city one-million dollars for the building, as is. It was appraised at $6.4-million. However, this is the only offer the city has received on the property.
